Mountain View may be small in size, but this spring we have big opportunities to get involved and shape the future of our town. As your Town Administrator, I want to invite every neighbor to take part in three simple ways: chime in, clean up, and show up.
1. Chime In: Mountain View Police Department is Getting a New Look
The Mountain View Police Department (MVPD) is looking for community insight into a new patch design. MVPD is currently considering five different submissions. Since this very public-facing department represents the residents, they are asking for resident feedback on what design best reflects the community they serve.
MVPD would like you to choose your favorite patch design, email the number of the design to them through the Town’s “Contact Us” webpage (located at https://www.tomv.org/contact-us).Chief Michael Nesbitt will announce the results at the May 18th, 2026 council meeting.

2. Clean Up: Code Enforcement Updates That Support Quality of Life
We know that “code enforcement” can sound technical or even intimidating, but our goal is straightforward: to keep Mountain View safe, attractive, and livable for everyone. We’ve designed recent updates to how we handle code enforcement to focus on education and prevention first, with clear communication to property owners and tenants about what we expect. Our intent is to work with residents to solve problems early—things like persistent debris, unsafe structures, or vehicles stored improperly—before they grow into larger issues.
You can help by staying informed about the basic standards that apply to all of us and by reaching out if you have questions or concerns. If you are unsure whether something on your property complies with code, contact Town Hall and we will gladly talk it through with you. When neighbors address small issues promptly—such as junk accumulation, overgrown vegetation, or blocked sidewalks—it protects property values and keeps Mountain View feeling welcoming and well cared for.
With weed season upon us, the public works department has been taking a proactive approach to this matter, and some residents may have already seen a notice coming from the Town about a code issue staff has identified. As always, when these letters come and you have questions, please call Town Hall so we can address any of your questions or concerns.
3. Show Up: Town Council Meetings
The Town has many important topics that Council is talking about at the upcoming meetings. We are working through the next steps of the Mountain View Code and Character (MVCC) project, discussing a potential charter change, considering Town Council committees, finalizing Town policies for purchasing and communications, and conducting the three-month review of the Town Administrator in an open meeting.
This spring, I encourage you to join these discussions at Town Council meetings and to engage in the public comment process, especially if you are new to Mountain View or if you do not often attend town meetings. Say hello to staff and elected officials while you are there; we want to hear what is going well and what needs attention. The more we talk with one another and the more feedback you provide, the better we can understand the needs and hopes of our community.
A Simple Spring Checklist
If you are looking for a practical way to get started, here is a quick checklist for this month:
• Do one thing on your property or block to support spring clean-up.
• Learn or review one key code requirement that applies to your home or business.
• Attend a Town Council Meeting and introduce yourself to at least one person you do not know.
Mountain View’s size is our strength: small actions by a few people are immediately visible and can change the feel of the whole town. Thank you for everything you do to keep Mountain View a safe, clean, and connected place to live.
