Get To Know Our Police Department Command Leadership

Lieutenant Mike Nesbitt, Mountain View Police Department

Chief Steve Davis, Mountain View Police Department

1. How long have you lived in Colorado? How long have you been employed with the Town of Mountain View?

I am a native of Colorado, born and raised in Boulder. I have been with the Town of Mountain View since 2018 as a police chaplain, then Chief in 2019.

2. What did you do, prior to coming to Mountain View?

I owned and operated Davis & Associates Professional Background Services, which I started in 2006. The business is currently operated by my wife.

3. What’s your favorite part of your job with the Town?

Most definitely the citizens I serve. I love the small town feel and look and being able to put faces to most of our citizens.

4. Did you always want to be in law enforcement?

Yes, from about the age of five. I can remember my fascination with police officers, their police cars and everything. I always held them as heroes, as a child.

5. If you weren’t a police officer, what do you think you’d be doing?

I would be retired!!!!

6. What aspects of your work are most interesting or satisfying for you?

Every day brings a new opportunity to change someone’s life.

7. What is something about you or your life that people might be surprised to learn?

I was a boat ranger at Horse Tooth Reservoir and can’t swim!! I am also a certified baker.

8. Can you describe your family in three to five words?

My world, my life!

9. If you could wave a magic wand and make something in Mountain View happen, what would it be?

To be able to know that each of our residents live a safe, healthy, and happy life.

10. Many of us recognize that hardships in our life have helped us to grow into the people we are meant to be. Do you see that in your own life, and can you share anything about that?

Mental health and police suicide is an issue that is so important to me. In our industry, we see and feel what most people can only imagine in nightmares. Over the past 45 years in law enforcement, I have tried to use these terrible encounters to help other Police, Fire, Dispatch and EMS professionals to work through PTSD issues and know there is always help to get through the darkness. I also have used techniques that have worked for me with the citizens I meet that are or have been experiencing loss, grief and depression.

1. How long have you lived in Colorado? How long have you been employed with the Town of Mountain View?

I moved to Colorado from Alabama in 1985 with my brother and mom after she accepted a job here. I started with Mountain View Police Department in 2018.

2. What did you do, prior to coming to Mountain View?

I was with the Edgewater Police for eight years. Before that, I was with Northglenn and Red Rocks Police.

3.  What’s your favorite part of your job with the Town?

One of the best aspects is that my family is invited to be part of our community. They especially enjoy helping with our town events.

4. Did you always want to be in law enforcement?

I had a close friend who started with the Denver Police in 2005. He invited me to do a ride-along with him and after that, I was hooked.

5. If you weren’t a police officer, what do you think you’d be doing?

Before law enforcement, I was a motorcycle mechanic and metal fabricator/welder. My brother and I have talked about opening a race car shop after we retire.

6. What aspects of your work are most interesting or satisfying for you?

I’ve been a Field Training Officer since 2013. It’s very satisfying work. Notably, two officers I’ve helped train have been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. One more has been promoted to Detective and another is now an Agent with the FBI.

7. What is something about you or your life that people might be surprised to learn?

While attending school in Alabama, I sang in our church choir. I really enjoyed it!

8. If you could wave a magic wand and make something in Mountain View happen, what would it be?

If I could magically make our town’s older reputation for some former ticket writing practices disappear, that would feel good. Although it’s been several years since this was happening, it can be the first thing people think of when they hear, “MVPD.” Chief Davis (and all members of our department) have worked hard to help the community see that we do things differently now.

9. Can you describe your family in three to five words?

My wife is an amazing person. We’ve been together for almost 30 years, and we have two of the most amazing kids ever. I’m so proud of them all. That’s way more than five words, sorry!

10. Many of us recognize that hardships in our life have helped us to grow into the people we are meant to be. Do you see that in your own life, and can you share anything about that?

One of those hardships would be the loss of my dad. He passed away when I was 11, and I didn’t get the chance to know him that well. I sometimes wonder what he would think of my life and family. I think he would be proud.
