This has been the summer of everything theme parties, and I couldn’t be more delighted! I’m incredibly grateful that so many people have been thinking of Anteak Booteek as their shopping destination for all their costuming and styling needs. It seems that gatherings are becoming more than just parties , they’re opportunities to create an entire experience, and I’ve had a front row seat to all the creativity.
People have been dreaming up themes that range from straightforward and nostalgic to wonderfully elaborate, multilayered adventures. As a vintage store owner and stylist, I get such a thrill from helping people bring these ideas to life through clothing and accessories.
This summer, I’ve had the pleasure of styling a wedding party for a disco themed wedding in Italy, helping pull together looks for a ’70s casino themed party, dressing guests for a Hunger Games inspired soirée, and creating looks for a 1940s Hollywood glamour cocktail hour. Each event has been completely different, but they all share the same wonderful invitation: Have fun, get creative and dress the part!
Sometimes, it’s the little details that make a theme come alive. Maybe you need to festoon the perfect hat for a Golden Girls Florida party, or you’re searching for the right pair of Levi’s denim for a 1950s Greasethemed wedding. Maybe you need an outrageous accessory, a vintage jacket or an entire head-to toe transformation. Whatever the vision, Anteak Booteek is always happy to help you find the pieces that make it work.
There’s something magical about stepping outside the ordinary through clothing. A theme gives us permission to play, experiment and become someone or some version of ourselves we might not get to express every day. And vintage clothing is the perfect playground for that kind of creativity. The pieces have history, personality and a sense of individuality that can make any event feel more memorable.
As cooler weather approaches, I’m excited to bring that spirit of creativity into the shop in another way. On September 9 at 5 p.m., I’ll be hosting an upcycling class at Anteak Booteek, sponsored by the Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission.
We’ll explore the art of giving clothing a second life through hand sewing, patchwork, embroidery and machine sewing. Patches, scrap fabric, sewing notions and snacks will be provided! Bring a garment you’ve been wanting to patch up, or pick out something in the shop and give it a little creative makeover.
