Localworks Seeks Wheat Ridge Storyteller for Main Street

Do you enjoy telling your neighbors about the great businesses and people that make Wheat Ridge special? Localworks may have just the volunteer opportunity for you.

Localworks is looking for a Ridge at 38 Volunteer Storyteller — a community member who can spend a few hours each week helping us share the stories of the people and businesses along the 38th Avenue corridor.

As a Ridge at 38 Volunteer Storyteller, you’ll visit local businesses, chat with owners and employees, take a few photos and write short stories about the people and places that make Wheat Ridge special. If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved in your community in a quieter, more relaxed setting, this could be a great fit.

There is no specific age requirement, but you will need a reliable way to get around town. You don’t have to be a professional writer or photographer. If you enjoy a good conversation, are curious about the people in your community and can put together a well-written story, you may be just the person we’re looking for.

The commitment is about four to five hours a week, and the schedule is flexible. Localworks will provide story assignments and be available to answer questions, but you’ll have plenty of independence to decide when and how you complete your work.

Your stories will serve as multi-purpose blog posts and may be shared in the Localworks newsletter, on the website and through social media. It’s a chance to give local businesses a little extra attention while helping your neighbors discover something new about the community.

This is a part-time, unpaid volunteer opportunity. In appreciation for your time, Localworks is happy to work with the selected volunteer on an exchange that is useful to them. This could include an annual Clear Creek Makerspace membership, access to Canva Pro, gift cards to local businesses and restaurants, or another mutually agreed-upon benefit.

Most of all, this is an opportunity to get out into the community, meet some interesting people and help tell the stories of the businesses that make Wheat Ridge home.

Localworks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with the City of Wheat Ridge, local businesses and residents to advance Wheat Ridge as a vibrant and sustainable community.

Interested? We’d love to hear from you. To learn more about the Ridge at 38 Volunteer Storyteller opportunity, contact Localworks at [email protected]. If you’re ready to apply, please send your resume and an example of your writing to the same email address.
