I recently attended a Wheat Ridge Track and Field event, this year’s David S. D’ Evelyn Invitational at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. After a half mile hike from the back of a completely full parking lot and paying the nominal entry fee I entered a full stadium of stretching, sprinting and spandex-clad student athletes. The day was sunny and pleasant, a perfect Colorado Spring Day, with the sound of steel cleats crunching on sidewalk and the scent of spray sunscreen and breakfast burritos in the air. Twenty-Four Schools were in attendance ranging from local rivals to academies and mountain community schools.
