Two Years on the Rack: A Vintage Shop’s Thank You to the Neighborhood

Two years ago, I unlocked the door to my little vintage shop for the first time, not entirely sure what would happen next. I remember standing behind the counter, surrounded by racks of denim jackets, mid-century dresses, and unyielding optimism. I have spent decades collecting, cleaning, mending, and tagging every piece in the hopes of opening a brick and mortar. It’s hard to believe it has been two years! Everyday I look forward to being here in this welcoming community, time has flowBy!

Running a vintage store is a bit like running a small museum where everything is for sale. I love being able to tell the story of a dresses provenance, share a photo of the previous owner if known, while helping each article of clothing continue it’s journey onward. I also strive to send photos of the new owner in the garment to the originator to evidence their fashion choices live another day. And thank you for allowing me to capture you with your new finds and huge smiles on your face!

But what I didn’t fully anticipate when I opened the shop was how many stories would come from the people walking through the door.

Customers often tell me about the joy a piece sparks. A beaming client found the exact sweater her mother wore in an old family photo. A college student bought a 1990s windbreaker and came back the next week just to say it had become her “lucky jacket” during finals. I’ve seen people try on clothes and instantly transform standing a little taller, smiling at themselves in the mirror, discovering a version of their style they didn’t know existed.

Moments like those are the real reward of running a vintage store.

Of course, small business ownership isn’t all nostalgia and great outfits. There are long days sorting inventory, late nights fixing zippers, and the constant balancing act of rent, utilities, and unpredictable sales. But every time someone walks in and says, “I love this place,” it reminds me why I started.

Over the past two years, this shop has become more than a store. It’s been a place for conversations about fashion, sustainability, creativity, and the joy of finding something unique. In a world of fast fashion and online shopping carts, there’s something special about discovering a piece in person, something that already has history stitched into the seams.

To everyone who has stopped by, browsed the racks, shared a story, or simply told a friend about the shop: thank you. You’ve helped turn a small dream into a living, breathing part of the neighborhood.

Here’s to the next chapter and to many more treasures waiting to be rediscovered. I look forward to seeing you and celebrating two years in business on First Friday, April 3rd, where you will be entertained with a vinyl DJ, snacks and endless vibes!
