The Modern Solution to Full Mouth Restoration

When it comes to replacing missing or failing teeth, many people are not aware of all of their options. Traditional options like dentures have always been bulky and uncomfortable while solutions like the All-on-4®, though still effective, are becoming outdated compared to more advanced techniques. Among the latest innovations is the 3 on 6™ treatment concept, developed in 2013, which is gaining popularity as a superior solution for full-arch restorations for patients who qualify.

The All-on-4 treatment concept, developed in the 1990s, was revolutionary at the time and has completely changed treatment options for patients. The treatment involves removing bone to create space for a modified denture, no bone grafting or tissue augmentation, and the use of only four implants. The treatment is so cost-effective and efficient to accomplish that the price is decreasing in some cities. The All-on-4 surgery could be considered a more aggressive treatment compared to others, especially for those patients who have high bone volume and enough gingival esthetics to support more beautiful restorations.

Meanwhile, more providers are now offering six to eight implants for each arch to improve longevity and support more beautiful and durable restorations. With six implants supporting three bridges on each arch, the 3 on 6 technique preserves healthy bone tissue, offers greater stability, less maintenance and delivers aesthetically pleasing results. Additionally, the 3 on 6 procedure allows patients to avoid bulky dentures, providing a more natural feel and function. Dentures can also limit people from speaking, chewing or tasting their food properly, even when supported by implants.

The procedure typically takes about six months to complete and involves several stages, including consultation and planning, surgery with same-day temporaries, healing with temporary teeth, and the final restoration with ceramic. With advances in surgical treatments, many providers use 3D-guided implant placement together with holistic approaches like IV infusion therapy, PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), ozone and laser therapies to ensure less discomfort and extra healing support.

The 3 on 6 treatment concept hits a sweet spot between complexity, efficiency, longevity and cost. By using six to eight implants, extensive bone grafting techniques, and conserving healthy bone, the 3 on 6 procedure is considered the more conservative technique. Additionally, because of the progress in technology and dental laboratories, the treatment can be done at a similar cost to the All-on-4.

Addressing missing teeth not only improves appearance and function but also helps prevent complications like gum disease, bone loss, and shifts in dental alignment. By restoring your smile with the 3 on 6 or similar procedures, you can maintain a strong jaw, protect your facial structure, and enjoy a renewed sense of confidence. In a time when traditional options like dentures and the All-on-4 method are still commonly recommended, it’s important to explore your options and understand the benefits of newer, more advanced solutions like 3 on 6.
