Stober Elementary Celebrates High Academic Growth

The Stober Elementary School staff, led by principal Anne DiCola, was recognized at the JeffCo Public Schools October board meeting for its outstanding academic growth, as measured by the most recent statewide CMAS testing.

Stober was one of only five schools in the district to achieve high growth, at the 70th percentile or above, on both the English language arts/reading AND the math assessments. This achievement comes on the heels of the 2023 school consolidations, during which Vivian Elementary was closed and combined with Stober. The high growth scores highlight the hard work and dedication of the Stober teachers to meet kids where they are academically and to help them improve and grow.

“I am so incredibly proud of our entire school community,” says Ms. DiCola. “Our students and staff continue to focus on building strong relationships and classrooms where our students can be positive, thriving, and successful members of our community.  I am thrilled that our students continue to indicate feeling a strong sense of belonging here at Stober, as building that foundation is our top priority.”

Ms. DiCola encourages the entire Stober staff to really focus on getting to know each student at the school, with twice weekly all-school assemblies helping to grow that sense of community. Many of the teachers also host popular after school enrichments to further grow those connections with students. As parent Tamara McTavish notes, “it’s clear that the teachers and staff at the school really care about all of the kids and helping them grow as both students and individuals.”

Teacher Rachel Levett shared, “To me, this recognition is an indication of the dedication of teachers at all levels and content areas to see their students succeed – personally and academically. When I look around at the staff, I see people that are so deeply invested in their students’ growth. These teachers think critically, creatively, and passionately to ensure that each of their students knows they are important and that they can reach their goals every day. I’m so proud to be part of such an amazing team of teachers!”

“This recognition is a true testament to the amazing work of the Stober teachers and staff” adds Stober parent Sarah Snow. “It is such a wonderful feeling to know that not only are our own children’s needs being met, but that even as our school population increases kids across the board are growing and thriving.”

Stober Elementary is located in the Applewood neighborhood and has an enrollment of 350 students. While Stober technically has a Lakewood address, its school boundaries include students from Wheat Ridge, Golden, and Lakewood. As one of the five elementary schools in the Wheat Ridge articulation area, it is proud to be a part of the Wheat Ridge community.
