Self-Discovery is the First Step Towards Rebirth

Nicole Beaudin

As I’m sitting down to write the final draft of this article, Spring is officially here! This season heralds a time of transformation, where things, long dormant, spring to life under the right conditions.

Humans follow this cycle too. We are of the earth. We have rhythms in our lives similar to the excitement of planting new seeds, the busy-ness of summer activity and things coming to harvest, the beginning of things falling away, and the dormancy and slowing down that occurs in winter.

Rebirth is possible for each and everyone of us. It’s easier to see what part of our lives is ready for spring and renewal when we look back and understand the seasons it and we have gone through.

When we sit in the victim state, feeling woe-is-me, thinking this will never change, our nervous system gets on high alert, our muscles tense, and our eyes hyper focus in an effort to keep us safe. Our physiology alone in this state makes it hard to see opportunities and to make new choices that allow our rebirth to occur. When we sit in faith, take the brave leap into self-discovery, and trust the seasons, we make new choices and act and embody a knowing and an expectation.

Making time to understand yourself is the first step to a more magical life. Self-discovery wonders why you keep making the same choice, again and again, even though it doesn’t get you where you want to go. Self-discovery looks at patterns in your life with curiosity and a desire to heal and shift. It also wonders why you didn’t counter on that offer, share your authentic feelings and needs in relationship, or said yes to that project again at work even though your days are packed.

Getting curious with yourself, your thoughts, your actions and inactions is the first step in gaining self-awareness. Heightened self-awareness re-births into self-mastery and a life aligned with your highest and best and that of the world.

But here’s the thing, our world of marketing gimmicks depends on us following our triggers and letting our insecurity drive. This is why each and everyone of us taking one tiny step into the adventure of self-discovery is so crucial.

So where do you begin? My advice here is simple and consistent. Look at areas of your life you don’t love, that feel heavy, that aren’t getting you to where you want to go. Look back to understand what season you’re in. Get curious through journaling and inner work like coaching or therapy to gain self-awareness and open yourself up to a rebirth that is a natural cycle of life.
