On my personal path to more happiness and alignment this year, I’ve been doing a lot of work to shift out of a very old and outdated pattern.
It has taken many shapes, but it boils down to two long-held beliefs. It’s safer for me to play small interwoven with everyone else’s desires and needs matter more than my own. This includes my faith. If I’m being really honest, when I pray, I always believed that God will answer everyone else’s prayers but my own.
There were a lot of tiny and large cuts in my upbringing that led to this getting embedded in my subconscious, but it’s also a deep rooted family pattern on both sides. I’ve made progress at times on this, but it’s really become a pesky unwelcome guest.
The other part that’s frustrating is when you believe your needs don’t matter, it’s really hard for you to even know what they are let alone communicate and prioritize them. It’s like going to a restaurant, placing a vague order, but expecting the chef to know.
If I want to make the impact I seek in this life, this needs to go. I am more than tired of making life harder than it needs to be, and I’m also just over seeing life and opportunities through this lens. So I’ve been doing what I do with clients to myself while also leaning on talented healers.
In the last month I’ve received multiple signs that not only do my needs matter to the universe, but it really wants me to just ask and expect.
Matt and I were on a 6 mile run-walk in a local arboretum, which happens to also be a historic cemetery. It was hot, we had left late, and we were thirsty, but because this is close to home and a quick workout we tend not to bring anything. We know we can power through. We were dreaming of water when an employee drove past, opened his window and handed us two water bottles. Then a little later we were dreaming of a recycling can to lighten our load, seconds later as a hawk was calling ahead another employee drove past, opened his window, and asked for our empties. He’d discard them for us.
Our needs were met by stating our dreams out loud and persisting towards our goal. I’ve been testing it out in other areas, asking politely of people and God for what I need to be my best. Every time, it gets delivered.
What would happen if you just asked? If you’re struggling to know your needs, I am great at helping people remember, ask, and act on them [email protected].
