In business there are certain metrics that help you forecast your future, these are called leading indicators. These are things like subscribers, followers, engaged customers, customer satisfaction, leads nurtured, open projects, conversion rate, etc.
I view these metrics like I do blossoms on strawberry plants, even if not all of them turn into strawberries, they give you an idea of your potential harvest.
Your daily life, the tiny phrases you repeat within your mind and the actions that follow, are another form of a leading indicator. If you want to predict your future the best way to do so is to become aware of and look at the life you live every day.
Something I learned the hard way about myself, and now I see in my clients every day, is that we tend not to see or notice ourselves. Weird right? Part of this is a society and upbringing that benefits from our lack of awareness and part is truly just a lack of training and tools.
In coaching we call this mirroring back. Sometimes I get the brave task of mirroring back inconsistencies in behavior versus dreams, but other times I get the joyous task of mirroring back greatness someone has blocked off for years if not a lifetime.
One of the most powerful gifts I can give you, and definitely a path back to happy is permission to look at what you say you want and to spend a day auditing your life. This awareness will lead to a navigation shift.
This looks different for everyone, but here are some common examples.
• You say you want to be financially stable and wealthy but you spend on things you don’t need or don’t align with your values and then you avoid looking at your account balances.
• You say you want to feel good in your body but you rarely get up from your desk and snack on things that after the moment make you feel not so great.
• You say you want more opportunity but you rarely outreach telling people about your gifts and your skills.
• You say you want to be in a committed loving relationship, but you say no to every date and hide in a corner when in public.
Leading indicators are just math. The more consistent you are, the more your chances for success add up. Yes, there will be rejection, mistakes, set-backs, and nos, but as you move forward in spite of these lessons, you will also grow your self-confidence, self-awareness and self-trust.
These last three are the greatest leading indicators of a happy aligned life. Where is your life leading you? I’d love to support you in re-aligning it. [email protected].
