With fall quickly approaching, Jefferson County Public Schools would like to inform all students, faculty, staff and families as to what to expect in the coming weeks in anticipation of a new semester. Dr. Rob Stein has taken over the reins as interim superintendent as of July 5, 2026. Jeffco Schools looks forward to Dr. Stein’s stewardship with his decades long career in Colorado as an educator at every level from primary to collegiate levels. He has also served as Principal and in district leadership positions at other area schools with great results in academia and community engagement. We are grateful to his commitment to education and look forward to working under his keen leadership.

Classes begin for all schools Wednesday August 19, 2026. Please note start times vary based on whether the student is in the early, middle or late tier; please confirm with your neighborhood school accordingly. Start times remain staggered based on location and transportation logistics.
Elementary schools start at either 7:40, 8:05 or 8:15 a.m.
Middle schools start at 8:20, 8:30 or 9:00 a.m.
High schools begin anywhere from 8:05-8:39. Please check your local neighborhood school for exact start times.
Lakewood High School has freshman orientation Wednesday August 19 from 8:10am to 3:25pm. Classes for all students begin on Thursday August 20 at 8:10am. Please note that Wheat Ridge High School and Jefferson Junior and Senior High School both start on August 19, 2026 but have a delayed start time on Thursdays to 9:15am. Breakfast is offered from 7:40-8:15 at Jefferson Junior/Senior High.
High school football tryouts begin as early as Monday August 3, 2026. The first official game of the 2026 season is Thursday August 20, 2026. Spirit/Dance and Cheer follow a similar schedule.
All other sports including boys soccer, girls softball/volleyball, cross country, boys golf, girls gymnastics, field hockey and unified bowling where it is offered begin Monday August 10 2026.
Most schools outside the purview of Jefferson County Public Schools follow the same schedule of starting on Wednesday August 19, 2026 which includes Edgewater, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Arvada, PEAK and other non public schools.
Please note the following exceptions: Jefferson County Open School has staggered start times for 7th grade and all new students on Thursday August 20, 2026. All other students begin the new semester on Wednesday August 19, 2026. Creighton Middle School begins August 19, for all 6th graders and any new students in 7th and 8th grade. Full schedule classes commence Thursday August 20, 2026. Stevens Elementary in Wheat Ridge has a required orientation day on Wednesday August 19 with classes beginning on Thursday August 20, 2026.
