Your Voice, Our Future!

Mountain View Mayor Emilie Mitcham

As you may recall, last month the Mountain View Town Council officially adopted an updated comprehensive plan that will guide our development and growth for the coming years. This plan is a result of extensive community outreach over the course of a full year, and it articulates a shared vision for the future of Mountain View. Now that we’ve set the direction, the real work begins: implementing the plan effectively and thoughtfully.

The comprehensive plan is designed to address various aspects of our town’s development, from infrastructure improvements and environmental sustainability to a Town Hall remodel and park improvements. We appreciate those who took part in surveys, meetings, and discussions. But our work is far from over. To bring this plan to life, the Town Council needs your ongoing input to ensure we prioritize initiatives that best serve our community’s diverse needs.

I encourage each of you to actively engage in this process. Attend our Council meetings (in person or via zoom), so you can hear updates and provide direct feedback. These meetings are designed to be open and transparent, offering a platform for constructive dialogue. Your presence and participation are invaluable, as they help Council gauge community sentiment and make informed decisions.

If you are unable to attend meetings in person, we welcome your written comments. Submitting feedback to our Town Administrator via email or the website form, by 5pm on the day of the Council meetings, will ensure public comments get read at the meetings, and that your voice is heard and considered. Ongoing community voices are a vital part of Council’s decision-making process, providing a record of community input that we rely on to shape our priorities.

Due to current space constraints at Town Hall, as we manage the process of implementing the plan, we are investigating holding meetings at other nearby locations where there is more space, or even possibly outside under a tent, in order to make sure everyone is comfortable and can be included. We will make sure community members know when meetings are held in a different location.

Respectful communication is key to a productive discussion. We are a town known for its diversity of opinions, and this variety is a strength, not a challenge. While we may not always agree on every issue, approaching each conversation with respect and an open mind allows us to collaborate effectively. Your constructive feedback helps the Town Council understand different perspectives and find balanced solutions that reflect the needs and aspirations of our entire community.

As we prioritize the many potential projects outlined in the comprehensive plan, it’s essential to remember that our goal is always to enhance the quality of life for all residents. We will be making decisions on various projects — from upgrading our park and public spaces to improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, welcoming new businesses, and refining our zoning and building code. Each of these areas impacts all of our daily lives, and we will work hard to ensure you know of the meetings and how to participate. Your insights can help ensure we address the most pressing needs and opportunities.

By staying engaged, sharing your thoughts respectfully, and participating in discussions, you help us build a future that reflects the collective values and goals of our community.

Thank you for your dedication to our town. Your involvement is what makes Mountain View a vibrant and special place. I look forward to continuing this journey with you and seeing the positive changes we will achieve together.
