Sporting bow ties, bonnets and bunny ears, hundreds turned out to Anderson Park for the annual Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation on Saturday, March 23rd. According to event organizer Beth June, the event, held annually for roughly 40 years, has evolved into a cherished family tradition for many in the community.

“Whether your family has lived here for many generations or you have just made Wheat Ridge your home, community events welcome everyone and provide a feeling of belonging,” June said.

Featuring a visit from the Easter Bunny, a basket giveaway, games, coloring books and sidewalk chalk, the event offered a myriad of activities. The highlight, the egg hunt, was divided into four waves staggered at different times and organized by age groups to allow for a more equal playing field and fun for all ages.

“My strategy was to go straight to the back,” said 9-year-old Arantza Padilla of Denver who managed to collect about 15 eggs by avoiding the crowd of competitors gathered around the eggs nearest the starting line.

A total of 8,000 eggs were distributed across the park with the help of the Kiwanis Club of Wheat Ridge. “It warms my heart to see community being reinforced with all that’s going on in the world,” said Kirstin Litz, a Kiwanis member who attended the event for the first time this year.
