What’s Happening – September 2024

Exhibition of Joe Cauchi Original Art

September 6-27: Come view Cauchi’s works created between 1930 to 1980 at Artcentric Gallery. His paintings are not just decoration – they document “on-site”  moments inspired by rural farmworkers, families seeking to survive the Great Depression, and “snap-shot” paintings of ordinary life in small towns contrasted with life and work and poverty in New York City and beyond.  His later work (1960’s-’70’s) created an unusual subject for art, specifically capturing views through a microscope that pictured both “microscopic” precision and fantastic “cosmic” scenes that were like science fiction. Artcentric Gallery 7172 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge.

After the initial costume parade (last year’s winner came dressed as a Kissing Booth), dogs compete in several fun contests like the Musical Sit, the Leave-it trial (can your dog leave pile of aromatic wieners?), and several other contests including most original trick, best bark, biggest, smallest and most congenial. A day of comic antics ensue as everyone’s canine BFFs try to impress – or not. Either way, it’s an entertaining day. Registration materials available at  wheatridgehistoricalsociety.org, or email us at wrhistorical@gmail.com. Dogs must be on leash and current on rabies vaccination; handlers must sign a waiver. Free to WRHS members; $15/dog for non-members. Don’t miss this
supremely funny day!

Patriot Day Car Show

September 14: It’s a day we not only think of the veterans who defend our American way of life everyday, but the 1st Responders too. You might think of 1st Responders as the “local” calvary who run to assist us in time of personal need. I’d encourage you and your family to come and enjoy a day full of beautiful cars, hot dogs, burgers and brats, and raffles too. It’s a time to enjoy yourself while you reflect on those who preserve your freedom and safety everyday! The bar will be open and there’ll be burgers, brats, and hot dogs for sale. The fun is free! Many prizes will be raffled off to include two guns, a smoker, gift baskets, and more. There will be 24 trophies and plaques awarded to owners of the best cars and motorcycle. The “Best of Show” award is a memorial sponsored by one of our members in memory of his brother, a NYC fire lieutenant and 9/11 casualty. 9:00am to 2:00pm 2680 W. Hampden Rd., Sheridan
