The Art of the Happy Hour

There’s something about a happy hour at a location that celebrates a happy hour like it should. Calling it a “Happy Hour” is definitely not enough. Maybe a dedicated menu, special prices, live music, shareable food and great friendly service with quick turnarounds on orders.

An unusual start to my happy hour this week. Stylus & Crate, my favorite coffee shop that serves not only waffles and coffee, but now also wine, beer and cocktails. Absolutely love that! Sit at your favorite table or enjoy the sunshine on their amazing deck.

This week I went back to Colorado Plus. I love the new bar. Especially this time of the year now that Eugene punched a hole through that wall and let the natural light in. Colorado Plus has launched a new happy hour menu with great prices and delicious selections. My favorite is the Nashville Will’s Fried Chicken sandwich. It’s the perfect balance of heat, crunch and taste.

Eugene (Owner) is a huge supporter of Wheat Ridge. Hosting the many local groups and clubs for their meetings and celebrations. Whether you’re stopping by for lunch, entraining clients or feeding your family, Colorado Plus is always a great option. I love the happy hour menu with delicious cocktails, shareable bites and of course staff that is always happy to see you. If you have not been to Colorado Plus since their re-opening, it should be on your agenda in the very near future.

My next stop was The Werks, a new place I have been stopping by. Downstairs at the old Gold Market. They brew their own beer, they have their own bowling lanes and Connie is probably one of the best servers inside city limits. Large fun outdoor space that’s perfect to kick back after a long week. If you’re fan of low rider bikes, bowling and locally brewed beer, The Werks is your home.

Of course now that I’m at the Gold Market (Kipling and 26th) you know I have to stop at Esters… Great happy hour menu! They have amazingly combined quality of food with speed of delivery. It’s like they’ve been waiting all day for your order and 20 chefs jump and prepare the most delicious meal in only minutes. Of course I’m there for my favorite Martini in town, it never disappoints. By the way you’ll now find the Neighborhood Gazette in newspaper racks at the entrance of Esters.

My last stop of the Friday Happy Hour Tour was at Wheat Ridge Lanes. This is a legit bowling alley with leagues and rules and a long history in the bowling community. But what it also has is the world’s coldest bottles of Bud Light. I know you’re shaking your head but it’s my beer of choice. And if you’re into onion rings, you will love these. I’ve been trying onion rings around the city and I’ll be writing about the various styles prepared around here.

Stay tuned for my next Friday Happy Hour report. I’ll be trying out some of the new lobby bars downtown Denver. Some beautiful new Hotels have been completed like Populus on Colfax and Court and while there I will also visit the fabulous Brown Palace. Feel free to write in at WRgazette@gmail.com and share your latest happy hour experiences.
