This year, in honor of Veterans Day, Prospect Valley Elementary School came together with a heartfelt mission: to show support and appreciation for the men and women serving in the military during the holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of students, faculty, and families, we successfully filled 168 Christmas stockings for our deployed military personnel. The initiative honored our Veterans and provided a tangible way to brighten the holidays for those far from home. Each stocking was packed with a variety of items: including snacks, gloves, socks, holiday treats, Halloween candy, puzzles, and hot chocolate
The idea for the project stemmed from the organizer, Jessica DiCroce. Her brother, Brian Berthod, is in the army and expressed the difficulty of being away on the holidays and the joy of getting care packages while you are deployed. Once all the donations were in, the school hosted a packing event with members of the student council and the JOI club helped fill them. The stockings were delivered to Buckely Space Force Base in Aurora. In addition to the stocking drive, students wrote 430 cards for our military personnel for the KYGO 10K for Veterans drive.
On Veterans Day, the entire school community came together for a special assembly, where we honored veterans. We had members from the Arvada VFW attend our flag ceremony.
The school plans to make this Veterans Day fundraiser an annual event, expanding on its success and continuing to support deployed military members each year. By sharing stories, expressing gratitude, and giving back, we honor those who have served and those who continue to serve today. We hope this simple act of kindness will help bring a little holiday cheer to the brave men and women protecting our country.
