Localworks and the Wheat Ridge Police Department wrapped up the 2026 Dumpster Days season on September 19th, helping hundreds of Wheat Ridge residents clear out unwanted household items, yard waste and recyclable materials while keeping more than 60 tons of waste out of neighborhoods. Dumpster Days—offered exclusively to Wheat Ridge residents—reflect Localworks’ mission to advance Wheat Ridge as a vibrant and sustainable community, presenting residents with a free opportunity to responsibly dispose of clutter, including things their regular trash service won’t take, like furniture, mattresses, tires, paint, items than require specialty recycling including electronics, and excess yard waste.

Across four clean-up events held throughout Wheat Ridge in 2026, Dumpster Days served 520 residents and filled 78 dumpsters with over 120,000 pounds of trash, yard waste and two types of recycling: metal recycling and co-mingled plastic/glass/cardboard recycling. 121 gallons of paint, 90 tires and more than 50 mattresses were also collected for recycling or disposal. The program also processed 8,646 pounds of electronics for responsible recycling at a dedicated e-recycling event held alongside the final clean-up day.

“Every year, we see just how valuable this program is to our community,” said Adeline Mann, Localworks Program Manager. “Dumpster Days give residents an affordable way to get rid of things that are difficult or expensive to dispose of through regular trash service, while also transforming Wheat Ridge into a more sustainable and vibrant place to live and work. The turnout this year, combined with the generosity of residents who chose to donate, really demonstrates the community’s continued need for and support of this program.”

The 2026 results highlight both the continued demand for accessible waste disposal and the community’s interest in responsible recycling. By offering multiple disposal and recycling options at convenient neighborhood locations, Localworks’ Dumpster Days help residents tackle large clean-out projects, dispose of materials their regular trash service may not accept and contribute to a more sustainable Wheat Ridge.

Community donations also help make the program possible. While participation is free for Wheat Ridge residents, participants are invited to make a voluntary donation to support future events. Residents contributed $4,300 in day-of donations during the 2026 season.

Localworks and WRPD would like to thank the residents who participated, the community members who contributed donations, the churches who hosted the events, the volunteers who helped with event operations, and program partners Bin There Dump That and Blue Star Recyclers for helping make the 2026 Dumpster Days a success.
