Join the Charter Review Task Force in Edgewater

The Edgewater City Council has recently passed legislation to establish a Charter Review Task Force, inviting dedicated community members to participate in shaping the future of the city. This initiative aims to provide more community input and engagement in the review process of the Edgewater Home Rule Charter.

The Charter Review Task Force will consist of up to seven members who must be at least 23 years old, registered electors of the city, and residents for at least one year. Task force members will be appointed by the Mayor after consideration of recommendations by the City Council. Members will serve without compensation and are expected to actively participate in monthly meetings and discussions.

The Task Force will review and propose amendments to the City Charter, which will be presented to the City Council as the basis for possible ballot issues in 2026 or later. Any changes to the charter will require a successful vote by the community in an upcoming election.

“This is a great opportunity for interested and dedicated community members to help guide the future of Edgewater,” said City Manager Dan Maples. “We encourage anyone who meets the requirements and is passionate or curious about local governance to apply.”

Why Apply?

• Influence Local Governance: Members have the unique opportunity to shape the foundational document that governs the city, ensuring it reflects the community’s needs and values.

• Contribute to Community Development: By participating, members can directly impact the growth and development of Edgewater, making it a better place for all residents.

• Gain Valuable Experience: Serving on the task force provides experience in civic engagement, policy review, and collaborative decision-making, which can be beneficial for personal and professional growth.

• Impact the Community: The Charter Review Task Force plays a crucial role in fostering community involvement and transparency in local governance. By including community members in the review process, the city ensures that diverse perspectives are considered, leading to more comprehensive and representative amendments. This collaborative approach helps build trust between the city government and its residents, promoting a sense of ownership and pride in the community’s future.

The Charter Review Task Force is set to be formed in May/June 2025 and will conclude its work by May 2026, unless extended by the City Council. Interested individuals can submit an application to the City Clerk’s office in person or via email at CityClerk@EdgewaterCO.com.
