Patio season is always something to get excited about. Enjoying a meal or just a cocktail outside on the sidewalk or a constructed patio while people watching and enjoying the weather.
Usually the patio will be quieter than inside the restaurant but with staffing shortages it could also mean waiting longer for that next refill or plate.
It’s interesting how some of the best patios have the least amount of traffic. Perhaps the wet weather has had a negative effect on patio dwelling. Though it definitely emphasizes the need for a roof or canopy. Simply putting out some tables and chairs is simply just not enough.
Wheat Ridge Lanes has absolutely knocked it out of the park with their patio. A combination of covered and exposed areas with activities for everyone.
Probably the most anticipated patio of the summer is Gastown on 29th Avenue. We’ve all been cheering for Fin and his crew in getting his liquor license and resurrecting that old garage.
Brewery Rickoli has battled the pain of the Wadsworth project but is keeping his business going thanks to his gluten removed products. West 29th Restaurant and Bar has one of the most secluded and private patios. Very much a place for privacy and shade. Mestizo Brew Cantina on 38th Avenue definitely should increase the size of their patio. Maybe even sacrifice some parking spot up front for tables, bright parasols and seats for thirsty customers. Down the street of course sits Clancy’s which has two patios; the large one upfront has always been more of the “tourist” space while the smaller patio in the back is more for the cool kids. Both have great service, but I much prefer the front one where I can work on my tan and enjoy my usual beverage. Stylus and Crate and GetRight’s on Main Street, 38th Avenue, share a beautiful custom built deck that is always full of people. No overhead protection but you can always wear a hat. Probably the best place for your morning coffee.
On the other side of town at the Gold’s Market at Kipling Street and 26th Avenue, sit 3 very different but wonderful patio superstars. Illegal Pete’s delicious menu and a view overlooking Crown Hill Park, Esters Pub, an amazing place for the perfect martini and catching up with friends over a gourmet pizza and now new to Wheat Ridge, The Werks; a brewery with its own bowling alley and an outdoor space to just hang out. This west side of town is definitely getting a lot of positive attention.
Edgewater, of course, holds a handful of patio giants. Joyride Brewing Company is the king of patios with multiple options and an actual bar at each floor. Edgewater Beer Garden is a usual hangout for me. Love their prices and food and the cocktails are always served with a smile. Lot 46 Music Bar is still resurrecting the success of Tennyson’s Local 46 with live music and of course the best pizza from Edgewater Inn Pizza (same owners).
