Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital Unveils The Baby Place Rooftop Garden

Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital is excited to announce the opening of The Baby Place Rooftop Garden, a serene and beautiful space designed to enhance the experience of patients and their families during their stay at the hospital.

The garden, which opened on Jan. 16, 2025, features a variety of seating areas surrounded by lush plants and flowers, providing a peaceful retreat for visitors, patients, and caregivers. The centerpiece of the garden is “Hope Springs,” a stunning sculpture by Colorado artist Lorri Acott, and named by Lutheran Hospital President Andrea Burch and her husband, Dave. The sculpture symbolizes hope and gratitude, with intricate details that inspire and uplift those who view it.

“Dave and I are honored to contribute this statue to such a meaningful part of the new hospital project,” Andrea Burch said. “May it serve as a symbol of hope and resilience for all who visit, reminding us that in moments of reflection, we find strength and meaning.”

Acott was born in Denver and holds a master’s degree in education. With more than 20 years of experience, Acott’s work aims to inspire and move people through symbolism and gestures.

Designed by landscape architect Charley Meyer from Davis Partnership Architects, the garden spans approximately 2,700 square feet and includes several thoughtful features. These include a snow-melting system for year-round use, a shade structure, built-in wood benches similar to those in the main courtyard, and an automatic irrigation system to keep the plants healthy. The garden is planted with a variety of evergreen and deciduous shrubs, ornamental grasses, and a mesh wall for climbing vines, ensuring year-round interest.

The space is designed to accommodate different needs, with areas for group gatherings, private reflection, and small staff meetings.

Intermountain Health Lutheran Hospital, which opened at its current location in August 2024, is committed to providing a healing environment for its patients and their families.
