Helping Hands, Happy Town: Council Committees at Work for You

Mountain View Mayor Emilie Mitcham

Serving on the Mountain View Town Council is about more than making legislative decisions—it’s also about rolling up our sleeves and working together to make our town a wonderful place to live. In addition to participating in regional leadership through the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG)—a collaborative group of 59 cities, towns, and counties—our Council members also volunteer their time on local committees that directly benefit Mountain View.

These local committees were recently reestablished, and I’d love to share a bit about what they do and how you can be part of the effort.

Community Engagement Committee

Council Members Laura Dennis and Nancy Unger are leading our Community Engagement Committee. This group partners with the Town Clerk to bring Council-approved projects to life—projects that foster a stronger sense of connection and belonging among residents. From welcome packets for new neighbors, to creative ideas like a community cookbook, or colorful crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety—this committee is all about building relationships and celebrating our shared identity.

Events Committee

Council Members Brittany Loecher and Brent Metz are taking the lead on our Events Committee. This team works closely with Town staff to plan and coordinate community events throughout the year. Council Member Loecher has long been the driving force behind our town gatherings, and we’re thrilled to announce that this year’s annual summer picnic will feature a Pig Roast on August 23rd. (Don’t worry—we’ll have plenty of vegetarian options too!) Mark your calendars for a great time with neighbors and friends.

Finance Committee

Council Member Leal Algiene and I serve on the Finance Committee, which reviews our monthly financial reports and helps prepare the annual budget. We also work on policy recommendations related to town purchases and payments. While not as festive as a picnic, this work is essential to keeping our town running smoothly and responsibly.

Town Beautification Committee

Mayor Pro Tem Kathleen Bailey is continuing her leadership of the Town Beautification Committee—a group she helped launch several years ago. This committee organizes community clean-up days and may also support seasonal decorating projects to bring a little extra charm and color to Mountain View.

If you’re inspired to lend a hand, we’d love to have you join us! Whether you’re interested in helping with events, arranging flowers for a picnic, picking up litter, or brainstorming creative ways to engage our community, your participation is always welcome. We believe the best towns are built by neighbors working together—and there’s a place for everyone at the table.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to get involved. Let’s continue making Mountain View a place we’re all proud to call home.
