The annual music festival at Citizen’s Park in Edgewater is back with the same spirit of great live local bands, drinks, food and community connection but with a new name and schedule. The Edgewater Music Festival, formerly the Blues & BBQ Festival for Better Housing, will happen on Saturday June 22 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For the 2024 festival, Edgewater favorite Barquentine Brewing Company is to create a brew specifically for the event. Ranger Miller has been a key player both musically (with the Duke Street Kings) and behind the scenes for the festival since its inception 26 years ago. He hinted about what to expect from Barquentine, “the name of the brew is yet to be finalized, but we are pretty sure it is going to have the name Hubbard in as an homage to our beloved mascot, Hubbard the pig. And we are pretty confident that a pale ale is in the works.”

Miller is proud to boast about how the event has evolved over the years and is proud to say that “This event has allowed the The Blues & BBQ for Better Housing Foundation to donate more than $530,000 and has brought awareness to Habitat for Humanity and other attainable housing projects around Denver.”

The name change felt necessary to reflect that the musical performers cover a wide range of genres, and are not just blues musicians, Miller said.

“The second reason for the change is that we wanted to honor our relationship with the city of Edgewater,” Miller added. “They have been incredible to work with and just such a great place to have the festival that we thought it was time to recognize the community for all they have done.”

As the event draws closer, Miller was eager to encourage our readers to get involved. Volunteers can sign up to help out at the event, sponsors are always welcome to help support the festival and any other businesses or individuals who want to participate in the festival are encouraged to reach out.

“We are flexible and will work with you any way that we can,” Miller said.
