As spring is coming upon us, our opportunities to be active and social increases. Spring brings pleasant weather, more sunshine, and increases social opportunities. With warmer weather we see an increased ability to be outside, interact with others, and being active. What are different ways to spend time outdoors this spring and stay active?
Attend social gatherings
The spring season is host to celebrations such as St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. Gatherings with family and friends offer a great opportunity to connect in a relaxed and enjoyable way. If holidays are not your thing, there are also opportunities to host or attend social gatherings such as tea parties, garden parties, or picnics. Having a theme for your social gathering can offer a way to incorporate fun activities or ways to dress up and have fun. Hosting a teatime party allows for creativity of trying different teas, dressing up, and eating different snacks while talking. Hosting a book club can offer a set goal when gathering with friends and discussing various ideas surrounding the selected text. If hosting seems like a daunting role, co-hosting with a friend or having attendees help contribute can be helpful.
Attend local events
Local organizations often post event calendars to showcase the local events that are occurring in the area and offer details regarding the event. Social gatherings are a great time to connect with others, increasing our bonds and relationships with those around us. While fostering our existing relationships is great, social gatherings offer a casual and relaxed way to foster new connections as well. Events, such as farmers markets, can be found throughout the area and often feature a variety of merchants. Merchants often offer a variety of treats/goodies, plants, and handmade goods. Attending local events with friends and family can be a great way to connect and spend time with loved ones. Walking around at local events can also be a great way to get your steps in!
Spend time outside
Spring is a great time to pick up our outdoor hobbies again, as the weather is warming and nature is often blooming. Spending time while gardening can act as a grounding activity while also achieving a purpose of growth. Due to the changing seasons, spring is a great time to renew photography, birdwatching, hiking, and gardening. Organizations such as the Parks and Recreation department and your local libraries offer events and classes that help you learn about hobbies, your community, and other ways to spend time outdoors. Walking outdoors can be great way to connect with nature and appreciate the sights around you. Finding a local trail or park to walk around in can offer a change of scenery and give the opportunity to grab a breath of fresh air. As the spring is when flowers tend to bloom, finding a garden or the botanic gardens to walk around in can be a way to spend time outdoors while appreciating the beauty in the changing seasons.
