As winter approaches, the City of Edgewater is reminding residents of their responsibility to keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear of snow and ice to ensure safe passage for all, especially older adults, individuals with disabilities, and families with strollers.
Snow Removal Requirements
Residents must clear snow and ice from all sidewalks surrounding their property within 24 hours of the last snowfall, provided the snow exceeds two inches or any ice is present. This includes corner curb ramps, which are essential for accessibility.
Important Reminders:
• Do not shovel snow into streets or alleys.
• Corner curb ramps must be kept clear.
• Violations may result in a written notice and enforcement under City Code §11-2-40.
Community Support: Snow Angels Program
For those who need help, or want to help, Edgewater offers the Snow Angels Program, which pairs volunteers with neighbors needing assistance. Volunteers are matched with someone within a 10-minute walk, helping to make sidewalks safer for everyone.
Along with fostering stronger community relationships and relieving some of the stress that comes from a snowfall or freeze, Snow Angels make our sidewalks safer for those who are outside during the winter weather, like postal carriers, firefighters, police officers, and other neighbors.

If a sidewalk becomes hazardous, the City may issue a written notice requiring removal within 24 hours. Failure to comply may result in enforcement action.
