A Message from the Mayor: Celebrating 20 Years of Community Connection

Wheat Ridge Mayor Bud Starker

This year marks a significant milestone for one of Wheat Ridge’s most trusted institutions, our local newspaper, the Neighborhood Gazette, is celebrating 20 years in publication. On behalf of the City of Wheat Ridge, I want to extend heartfelt congratulations and deepest appreciation to the dedicated team behind the paper, and especially to its publisher, Guy Nahmiach, whose vision and leadership have made this achievement possible.

For two decades, our community has relied on the local paper not just for headlines, but for the stories that truly matter to our residents. These are the ones that tell us who we are. In an age when news travels at the speed of a tweet and is often filtered through national narratives, our paper has remained grounded in what’s happening here at home: school board decisions, local business openings, park improvements, community celebrations, and yes, even the challenges we face together.

The importance of local journalism cannot be overstated. It holds government accountable, amplifies resident voices, and helps neighbors stay informed and connected. Our newspaper doesn’t just report the news, it weaves the fabric of our shared experience. Whether it’s covering a new initiative at city hall, highlighting a local student’s achievement, or showcasing a small business owner’s dream, it’s clear this paper is written for the people of Wheat Ridge by people who care deeply about our city.

At the heart of that work is Nahmiach. Over the past 20 years, his commitment to fairness, clarity, and community storytelling has set the tone for the entire publication. Under his leadership, the paper has been a steady voice through times of change and growth. He’s helped foster civil discourse, challenged the status quo, and kept residents engaged in local affairs with integrity and heart.

I often say that strong communities don’t happeBy accident. They are built, piece by piece,  through the work of individuals who believe in service, connection, and progress. Our newspaper has been a cornerstone in that effort. It has helped shape Wheat Ridge’s identity as a community that values transparency, inclusion, and civic pride.

So today, we celebrate not just 20 years in print, but 20 years of community-building, of telling our story one edition at a time. Thank you to Guy Nahmiach and the entire staff for your tireless work. Here’s to many more years of keeping Wheat Ridge informed, inspired, and united.
