The Wheat Ridge Police Department is constantly working to find better ways to make officers more efficient in the field.
The department values your time and the time of our officers.
In March, the Wheat Ridge Police Department rolled out a new E-Ticketing system. Through a smartphone app, officers can now scan a driver’s license and registration, to automatically fill in information on a sheet they would normally write out by hand.
When these tickets are handwritten, it takes officers on average about 16 minutes per traffic stop. Testing out this new system, traffic stops are now averaging under four minutes.
This system will improve public safety in a number of ways. Moving forward, the goal is to minimize the time you are pulled over on a busy road, which helps keep drivers and officers safe from people who may be distracted or not properly moving over or slowing down, as required by law.
With officers taking less time on traffic stops, that officer can now pivot to the next call more effectively or focus their time on proactive police work. Because calls for service are outsized compared to the size of the department and the Wheat Ridge community, WRPD officers are largely responding to more calls than most agencies in the Denver metro area. This technology gives officers some of that time back to catch up with the demand for services.
This is part of the department’s commitment to improving service to the community. The department will continue to find ways to be more efficient, effective and innovative in keeping Wheat Ridge one of the safest places to call home in Colorado.
