Ten Students in Wheat Ridge High School’s Landscape Construction class recently designed and installed a spectacular Student Garden at the Colorado Convention Center during the Colorado Garden & Home Show.
The students took part in Wheat Ridge High School’s Agriculture Program, which was established in 2020 as a hands-on, two-year plant pathway program. They take Horticulture in their first year and complete the program with Landscape Construction and Urban Farming in their second year.
When the Landscape Construction class was presented with the opportunity to design the Colorado Garden & Home Show Student Garden, each student created a design that they drafted to scale.
According to teacher Traci Binford, “As a class, they chose their favorite design and named it ‘Farmer Pride.’ The blue and yellow colors, seen in the diversity of plants, represents the Wheat Ridge High School Farmers and the pride that they have in our school and Agriculture Program.”
Aside from the glory of having their garden featured at the Colorado Garden & Home Show, the students gained a deeper connection to the environment. Once they complete the two year agriculture program, they are a more productive member of our community and are more prepared for future challenges in sustainability.
