You can just imagine how shocked I was after seeing my favorite restaurant in the news, announcing their closure. Benzina at 4839 E Colfax Avenue in Park Hill, is in fact, shutting down. We had just highlighted them in last month’s issue. After 4 years of producing amazing meals and providing top notch service, they simply could not cope with the rising costs that are affecting so many restaurateurs. They are closing at the end of March. If you get a chance to try them before then, it would definitely be worth your while.
In that same category comes our very own Little Brazil on 38th Avenue. They have started a fundraising campaign hoping they can raise $100,000 to help them stay afloat and gain some traction. Little Brazil had recently changed their schedule staying open most days during the week. I’m not sure about asking people for money vs. rewarding them with an experience no one else is offering, but the point is valid, it is difficult, almost impossible to survive these economical conditions.
I had dinner at Illegal Pete’s this week and it was very good. Not cheap but what is today? I love their margaritas and of course the food and service are excellent. Yes, Illegal Pet’s does have 13 locations, but for me they are “local” right here at the Gold’s Market on 26th and Kipling, so I support them wholeheartedly like I do with Esters and anyone else brave enough to start and run a restaurant in our community during these arduous economic times.
Get ready for the crown jewel event of the year. The place where you never have to ask if they’re open. The event that draws about 4,000 people. The place that donates the entry fee to animal shelters and of course the event where you better be ready for fun, friendships and fantastic memories. The Saint Patrick’s day party of the year organized and hosted by Colorado’s oldest operating Irish Pub, right here on Wheat’s Ridge’s Main Street at 38th Avenue, Clancy’s Irish Pub. We are so thankful for owners Jeff and Liz and their dedication to hiring an amazing list of bands and performers. Make sure to say hello and goodbye to one of our favorite servers; Julio, as he embarks on his life’s next adventure. Julio we will definitely miss you.
Finally, can I just tell you how much I’ve been loving going to Lutheran Hospital’s cafeteria for lunch? Wait, did he say the cafeteria at the hospital? The city’s best kept secret. The soup bar is so tasty. Free parking, freshly made in front of you. Flame burning pizza oven, fresh items from the grill made with locally sourced ingredients. No reservations needed. Next month we will be highlighting this delightful place in. If you go, tell them Guy sent you!
