Our city is embarking on an exciting next chapter, guided by thoughtful planning efforts to ensure a sustainable, prosperous, and vibrant future. I’m thrilled to share updates on two key initiatives— the 2024 Sustainability Action Plan Update and the Wheat Ridge Prosperity Plan, compliments to our ongoing City Plan process. Together, these efforts reflect our community’s shared vision for the years ahead.
Advancing Sustainability
In October, Wheat Ridge City Council adopted the 2024 Sustainability Action Plan Update, our city’s first officially adopted sustainability roadmap. Building on the progress made since 2018, this updated plan introduces two new focus areas: businesses and jobs, and arts and culture.
The updated plan outlines 24 goals and 116 strategies across 8 key areas, including water conservation, renewable energy, transportation, and waste management. These efforts demonstrate our commitment to creating a healthier and more resilient community for current and future generations.
Building a Prosperous Future
For the first time since 2009, we are updating our economic development strategy with the Wheat Ridge Prosperity Plan. This comprehensive plan will guide decision-making, investments, and partnerships over the next decade, addressing the significant growth and demographic changes our city has experienced.
Created in partnership with Progressive Urban Management Associates (P.U.M.A.), the plan focuses on revitalizing corridors, fostering innovation and manufacturing jobs, enhancing quality of life, and creating a supportive business ecosystem. Over 300 stakeholders, including residents, business owners, and community leaders, have shared their input, ensuring the plan reflects our collective aspirations.
This roadmap will position Wheat Ridge for long-term success by identifying actionable goals, including “quick wins” achievable in the first two years. It will also align with other city efforts, including the broader City Plan, to ensure cohesive and sustainable growth.
