The City of Wheat Ridge is expanding its technological reach with new ways to access content and explore offerings. Most recently the city launched a new app through Localworks, made Channel 8 available in high-definition, and is in the process of making Channel 8 available on Roku and Amazon Fire.
The Explore Wheat Ridge app, created by Localworks, is an adventure series that takes users through the city’s history while giving users freebies and discount codes to use at local businesses. Users will find BOGO deals at restaurants, a free ice cream scoop, free beverages and more. The deals are not easy to find per se, but the app is extremely user friendly.
Localworks aims to educate the community on Wheat Ridge’s rich history, so users have to learn a bit before they get to enjoy rewards at some of Wheat Ridge’s most beloved businesses. When the application is opened, four locations are automatically available to explore. These include Fruitdale, Gold’s Marketplace, Richard Hart Estate and The Green. Click on each location for a 360-degree image that can be maneuvered around to find pins with more information. Clicking on those pins reveals historic pictures, videos and rewards to redeem. If a reward is found a user must create a free account to be able to redeem it. Localworks does not share or sell user information.
There is no downloading this app and users do not have to sign in and create an account. To access the app, a user should pin it to their phone’s home screen for a seamless user experience; please visit www.wearelocalworks.org/explorewheatridge/.
Wheat Ridge TV 8 is now available on Comcast via high definition on channel 880. The station also launched its own Instagram account found @wheatridgetv8. The Instagram account shares short video clips from larger series, highlights from city council meetings, and behind the scenes footage from projects throughout the city.
As more viewers cut the cable, Wheat Ridge TV 8 is expanding to new platforms. Currently viewers can search for or watch content live on the TV 8 YouTube page. Coming this summer, viewers can stream TV 8 content using Roku or Amazon Fire.
