Join Localworks for its annual Bar Stool Bingo fundraiser on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Esters in Gold’s Marketplace. With a little friendly competition, an unconventional game of bingo and a good cause behind it all, the evening brings people together to support a more connected Wheat Ridge.
All proceeds from the event will support Localworks’ social connectedness programming, which creates opportunities for residents and businesses to meet their neighbors, build relationships and feel more connected to their community.
Inspired by Wheat Ridge’s agricultural roots, Bar Stool Bingo is a more family-friendly way of saying Chicken S#!T Bingo. Participants purchase raffle tickets assigned to squares on a bingo board, and the winner is determined by a chicken.
How does a chicken pick a bingo winner? While the chickens are comfortable on their farm in a specially built bingo coop, participants wait for nature to take its course offsite at Esters. When a chicken’s droppings land on a bingo square, that square’s holder wins the round!
It’s a silly and face- paced game with a meaningful purpose: helping people feel more connected to the place they call home.
Creating Opportunities for Connection
According to the 2025 Colorado Health Access Survey, one in five Jeffco residents reports feeling lonely often or always. Social isolation can also have significant consequences for physical and mental health.
Localworks, a Wheat Ridge-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, works to address this need by creating opportunities for people to connect. Since its founding in 2005, the organization has focused on advancing Wheat Ridge as a vibrant, sustainable and connected community.
Earlier this year, Localworks received a grant from the Colorado Gives Foundation as part of a pilot program focused on expanding social connectedness. The funding helped the organization expand several existing programs, including its Block Party and Dumpster Grant program, monthly Live Local events, Block Party Library and Dumpster Days. Localworks plans to continue growing these opportunities in the coming year.
Although each program serves a different purpose, they all give residents a reason to come together. Block parties help neighbors get to know one another, Dumpster Days bring people together to care for their community, and Live Local events create welcoming spaces for residents to connect with local business owners.
These everyday interactions can make a lasting difference. A simple hello can lead to a conversation, a new friendship or a stronger sense of belonging.
“Localworks helps me realize that most people I encounter on a daily basis are my neighbors, my community,” said a local Wheat Ridge resident.
Give Back by Showing Up
Community connection doesn’t happen on its own. It takes people and organizations committed to creating it, over and over again.
This Colorado Gives Day, Bar Stool Bingo offers a chance to support that work while spending an evening with friends and neighbors. Whether you’re there for the game, the company or the cause, your participation helps Localworks continue creating opportunities for connection throughout Wheat Ridge.
Join Localworks on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Esters in Gold’s Marketplace for an evening of bingo, community and giving back.
