Most of us probably don’t think much about the road beneath our tires until we hit a pothole, drive over a rough patch of pavement, or encounter a street in need of repair. But maintaining our roads is one of the most important services a city provides, and doing that work proactively can make a
One of the things I love most about Wheat Ridge is that we don’t have to choose between small-town charm and big-city amenities. We have tree-lined neighborhoods, longtime local businesses, parks where neighbors know each other and community traditions that have been around for generations. And as a third-generation Wheat Ridge resident, I would know.
One of the things I appreciate most about Wheat Ridge is that we’re a community that values connection. Whether it’s chatting with a neighbor while walking the trail, supporting a local business, volunteering for a cause, or meeting someone new at a community event, those everyday interactions are what make this city feel like home.
One of the things I love most about Wheat Ridge is that people here care. They care about their neighborhoods. They care about local businesses. They care about parks, trails, public safety and the future of our community. Most importantly, they care enough to show up, ask questions and share ideas. That spirit of involvement
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of selecting Dominick Breton as the very first recipient of the Mayor’s Community Champion Award in recognition of his extraordinary service, leadership, and love for Wheat Ridge. Sadly, before we had the opportunity to publicly present this honor, Dominick passed away. It is fitting that the inaugural award
Two years after Wheat Ridge voters approved the $75 million “Next Chapter” bond program, major infrastructure projects are beginning to move from planning into action across the city. From corridor redesigns and sidewalk connections to stormwater repairs, residents will start seeing visible progress throughout 2026. One of the largest projects moving forward is the 38th
This is our moment to decide what Wheat Ridge looks like for the next 50 years. Over the last four years, I have heard clearly from residents about the kind of community we want to be. Through neighborhood meetings, surveys, and the work that shaped our comprehensive plan, the message has been consistent: we want
Wheat Ridge recently received encouraging news that will help move an important community goal forward. The city has been awarded more than $4.5 million in state funding to support infrastructure that will enable new housing near the Arvada Ridge G Line commuter rail station. The funding comes from Colorado’s Transit Oriented Communities Infrastructure (TOCI) grant
Looking back at 2025, I see a year defined by progress, resilience, and long-term investment in the future of Wheat Ridge. From continued reductions in crime to strong community development, the adoption of key planning documents, and the completion of the largest infrastructure project in our city’s history, we made meaningful strides in public safety,
For decades, Wadsworth Boulevard has been one of Wheat Ridge’s busiest and most important corridors, carrying more than 45,000 vehicles a day and serving as a front door to our community for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. It’s also been a source of frustration: congestion, safety concerns, aging infrastructure, and limited options for people walking,
It As we step into 2026, I want to welcome a largely new city council and take a moment to reflect on how far Wheat Ridge has come, and where we’re headed next. Together with council, city staff and, most importantly, our residents, we continue working to build a strong, resilient community that honors our
It is an incredible honor to write to you for the first time as Mayor of Wheat Ridge. As someone who was born and raised here, I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me to serve this community we all love. Wheat Ridge isn’t just where I live; it’s part of
A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to be part of a small delegation from the city of Wheat Ridge that traveled to Washington, D.C., for the National League of Cities (NLC) conference. This annual gathering is a pivotal event for municipal leaders across the country, offering a platform to share best practices and explore
My family has extensive experience as small business owners. With my father and grandfather having owned B & F Tire Company, I have seen firsthand the significant impact that local shopping has on our community. For 65 years, my family operated the tire shop on 38th Avenue, serving countless residents. Now, after 15 years of
I’ve spent my entire life involved in Wheat Ridge, and this remarkable city never ceases to amaze me in the best possible ways. As a child, I cherished the moments I got to attend city functions and events with my grandfather, (former Mayor, Hank Stites) where I learned about the rich traditions and wonderful people
Growing up in Wheat Ridge, I spent my formative years living near 38th and Allison Court, with my grandparents just a stone’s throw away at 32nd and Zephyr Court. Many fond memories revolve around wandering the grounds of Lutheran Hospital, exploring the adjacent undeveloped land that felt like a hidden park. We would feed the
In an ever changing and evolving city like Wheat Ridge the concept of legacy holds a special significance. As I reflect on my family’s roots in this community, I am reminded of the rich tapestry of history and tradition that shapes our identity. Recently, during a visit to Ridgefest with my family, I witnessed a
A few weeks ago, I was honored to have my peers on city council elect me as the new Mayor Pro Tem for 2023. After hearing about this new position, many people congratulated me, and then pulled me aside to ask, What the heck is a Mayor Pro Tem and what do they do? On
